I'm with you, the ending is what makes the movie, and the ending is what makes all of the best movies in my opinion. I'll use A Star Is Born as an example, good movie for the most part, absolutely terrible ending. What I love most about La La Land's ending, is that they do end up together in the alternate timeline.

The fire alarm in the kitchen goes off and Mia leaves. It’s the night of Mia’s one-woman show, and Sebastian is about to set off to see her, when he’s told he has to stay behind with the band for a photoshoot. Hardly anyone turns up to Mia’s performance and she’s devastated at the end when the seat reserved for Sebastian is empty. At the end of the movie, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone's characters don't end up together, a fact that, anecdotally, has caused pretty much everyone I know who's seen it to say something Summary. A pool party. A-ha’s song ’Take On Me’ is playing and Mia wanders through the party, avoiding small talk with a writer whose self-congratulatory monologue propels her, alone, to the bar within about 10 seconds. Then making her way to where the band is playing, she sees Sebastian, on keys. No. Mia and Sebastian are no longer together in the movie after they decide to officially part ways. We see this in the movie when Mia and Sebastian, after struggling all along with their career and facing rejections, finally decide to part ways but with a promise that they’d love each other, no matter what the circumstances, even if that N8TN6R.
