I have a similar problem to that defined in this old thread. Water in the battery well corroded the positive terminal. (There is only one in my car - bmw 318i E90 N43 Saloon 2.0l Registered 2009.) 2009 E91 328xi Water in Battery Tray / Start Issues The battery in the key is only there for the remote key functions (lock, unlock the car, roll the windows down, pop open the trunk & the panic alarm set off). Sometimes when the key is opened up, the tiny EWS chip will fall out & without that, the key will not start the car. turn key to position 1 five times, remove key, hold unlock button then press lock button 3 times, release unlock button. Not that I know of. You shouldn't need to reprogram it though. Unless you have a different fob all you need to do is recharge the battery inside by having it in the ignition and running the car.

Rechargable battery and therefore need their batteries recharged. Cars without CA have a rechargeable so it will be recharged when the key is on the fob. This is not limited to the 7 series as someone mentioned. You can tell easily if your keyfob have a regular battery or recharge battery by lookng at the back.
